Serving the Community Since it was founded in 1911, the Junior League of San Francisco has raised and donated $22 million to Bay Area communities. In addition, JLSF members have contributed more than 6 million volunteer hours. The Junior League of San Francisco is proud to focus on supporting and strengthening families in need in the Bay Area. The JLSF supports families in need via direct service, advocacy and grantmaking. Volunteers provide an uplifting, safe environment for youth development, cultural enrichment, life-skills training, tutoring and after school and mentoring programs. In 2005, our total contribution for the community grants and services was $283,000. The JLSF is committed to providing community support in a variety of ways reflecting both short and long-term involvement: Done in a Day Projects: Short-term volunteer involvement through one-day events, typically in conjunction with another non-profit organization. Enabling Funds Grants: Up to $5,000 provided on a one-time basis, for emergency or bridge funding. Financial and Volunteer Support: JLSF partners with organizations and provides financial support and a group of volunteers dedicated to specific community programs. Extended Support: Grants of volunteers or funds to community programs, often to ease the program's transition to self-sustainability. Long-term Community Impact: Hundreds of JLSF trained volunteer leaders bring their skills and experience to the community during and after their League tenure as volunteers and board members.
