Breakthrough SF

Breakthrough San Francisco supports young people on the path to college and trains outstanding college students for education careers. Breakthrough students receive more than 300 hours of intensive enrichment annually, the equivalent of more than two extra months of school.

As a result, at least 90% of Breakthrough’s students will attend a four-year college, tripling the baseline rate for first-generation college students in SF.

In addition, Breakthrough trains outstanding college students from across the country for education careers: developing their instructional skills, building their knowledge of pathways to teaching, and inspiring them to work in the field.

This school year, the JLSF will help facilitate the monthly after-school leadership activities for Breakthrough’s 5th-8th grade students. These activities help students build confidence and teamwork while encouraging collaboration, communication skills, and concern for others. This is an imperative part of Breakthrough’s community building. As one student described, “Breakthrough has helped me grow and come out of my comfort zone to try new things. The results were new passions that I cared about….I am who I am today because of Breakthrough.“
