2020 Women at the Center Honorees


The Junior League of San Francisco Inc.’s JLSF Sustainer Council is thrilled to announce our 2020 WATCH honorees – Sallie Huntting and Mayor London Breed.

These extraordinary women were selected because they are both truly visionaries who have given generously of their time, energy, and resources in an effort to further philanthropic causes and improve our community.  Their lifelong commitment to volunteerism, community leadership, and vision are inspirations to others. Learn more about these accomplished women.



Sallie Huntting

Sallie has played a significant role in the Bay Area business and nonprofit sectors for many years.  She credits much of her success to the training she received through the San Francisco Junior League, Inc. (“Junior League” or “JLSF”).  Sallie was an Executive Vice President at the Academy of Art University; the Chief Development Officer for the San Francisco Ronald McDonald House and, for the past three years has been the Chief Development Officer for the Susan G. Komen San Francisco, Bay Area.

Sallie has chaired over 100 fundraisers and events in the Bay Area including the San Francisco Junior League Fashion Show.  She is a past member of the JLSF Board of Directors and recipient of the Spirit of the Junior League Award. Her leadership roles have been notable including the San Francisco Opera Guild Board of Directors and Opera Ball Chair.  She was also President of the San Francisco Symphony League and was the Supper Chair of the San Francisco Symphony Centennial Committee. She is also a Past President and founding member of the Bay Area Arthritis Auxiliary, and a Past President and founding member of the Heart & Stroke Society of the American Heart Association, Bay Area.  She was a member of the Board of Directors for Achievement Rewards for College Scientists, as well as the Board of Directors and Chair of the first American Red Cross Ball, San Francisco. Sallie is also a past Treasurer and member of the Board of the California State Summer School for the Arts Foundation. She was also appointed by the California Superintendent of Public Instruction to the California Arts Project Board of Directors.  Sallie has been recognized as one of the top 100 women in California by Haute Living.



Mayor London Breed

London Breed is the 45th Mayor of the City and County of San Francisco. She previously served as President of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors and Acting Mayor, leading San Francisco following the tragic passing of Mayor Edwin Lee. She is the first African-American woman and only second woman to serve as Mayor.

London is a native San Franciscan, raised by her grandmother in Plaza East Public Housing in the Western Addition. She graduated with honors from Galileo High School and attended the University of California, Davis, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science/Public Service with a minor in African American Studies. She went on to earn a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of San Francisco.

London served as Executive Director of the African American Art & Culture Complex in the Western Addition for over a decade, transforming the struggling center into a vital, financially-stable community resource that provides after school arts and cultural programs for youth and seniors. She also served as a San Francisco Redevelopment Agency Commissioner for five years and, in 2010, was appointed by then-Mayor Gavin Newsom to be a San Francisco Fire Commissioner, where she served until her election to the Board of Supervisors.

London has dedicated her entire adult life to serving our communities and improving the City’s housing, environment, public safety, transportation, and quality of life.
